I could write a book about my journey with Grant. My situation was complex.
My partner and I were in business together. Our sons-in-law were employees. Due to health issues, my partner had to step down from the business. I was feeling overwhelmed at a stage that I needed to make a lot of complicated decisions for our companies and my personal life.
This led me to my first acquaintance with Grant. In the past I had spoken to Lawyers, Accountants, Tax Consultants, Professional Coaches and these meetings – while being informational – did not ever address the full picture and provide a workable plan.
I sat down with Grant at our first meeting and I felt very comfortable and at ease discussing my life. Our journey over the past five years has been evolving. He and I had to deal with the reality and consequences of:
Grant and I met often and I felt trust and respect for him. He knew my whole situation and became my business confidant.
I found Grant very professional, approachable and always available. He is open-minded, knowledgeable and proactive in his field. He always works to the advantage of me, his client.
In a nutshell, I came to him with papers in an over-the-shoulder cooler and he provided me with a briefcase. He said, Lynn you can certainly afford a briefcase, laughed without judgment and got one for me.
He has set up a portfolio so I can have freedom to travel knowing he is handling my investments with no worry for me. He has brought together a very comfortable income while my portfolio continues to grow.
Thanks Grant!
My wife and I first met Grant when he did a presentation at my wife's place of work 17 years ago. At that time, we considered ourselves somewhat knowledgeable investors who had been working with various stock brokers/investment firms for a number of years. The thing for us was, that after all those years, it seemed that the stock brokers were always making commissions for trading on our behalf when our portfolio was not making any money or actually losing money. If the markets were going up, they would have us buying more, and got a commission. If the markets were going down they would have you "average down", and got a commission. We did not seem to be making any headway. We knew from the time we started working that we would be self-funding our retirement. My wife hated to open the monthly statement that the brokerage firm generated, because one month it would look like we were on track to retire and the next month, it looked like we would be working into our 90's before retirement.
We arranged to meet Grant and his partner at the time, "Cub". After this initial meeting it was clear to us that we really did not have a "plan" to meet our investment goals. We were really just kidding ourselves. Grant put together a full financial plan for us to review. After reviewing the plan, we transferred our investments to Grant to manage. The initial "hook" if I can use that phrase, was when Grant explained the way he worked. If the markets went up based on the investments we had agreed to be in, he made money along with us. If the markets went down based on the investments we had agreed to be in, he lost money. His compensation was tied directly to the success of our investments. He had "skin in the game" and was thus directly invested in our success, unlike the brokerage houses or banks that made money on the buying or selling of stocks or mutual funds on our behalf, regardless of whether our portfolio was actually making any returns on our investments.
Since that time, we meet with Grant often. He is always ready and able to explain to us where we are, what his thoughts are on which way we might to go, and how we would get there. After that first presentation, our overall goal has always been to be able to retire with a reasonable income and to be able to maintain our capital base if not to increase it. Now after my being retired for 8 years and my wife retired for 6 years, with Grant's advice, we are doing exactly what we had planned for. We have been drawing a comfortable income that allows us to travel and do all the things that we want to achieve in retirement while at the same time, maintaining our initial capital. Grant has stated numerous times, one of his goals is that he does not want us to worrying about our investments every day but that we should be out enjoying all that we have been able to accomplish. His financial advice has very much allowed us to do just that.
We have recommended Grant to a friend of ours as well to my mother, who are by all accounts just as happy with Grant and the services that he provides as we are. One of our daughter's and her husband are also with Grant and well on their way to a self-funded retirement also. I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone to go and meet with Grant and find out for yourselves what we have experienced from his excellent knowledge, concern, compassion and service. We look forward to many years to come working with Grant.
I met Clayton and Grant when the organization I work with changed group investment providers. I have been impressed from day one by their accessibility and availability. When we were all still meeting in person, Clayton and Grant arranged for regular group information sessions as well as individual meeting times onsite. It is difficult to find the time after work hours to meet about financial issues, and so this has been a real boon of convenience not only for myself but for my colleagues.
Once the pandemic started, this availability continued through the offering of virtue group and individual information sessions. Clayton has additionally made time to contact me on a regular basis to discuss the markets and their interplay with my accounts. This has helped teach me a bit about this kind of thing, and has also reassured me that Clayton has his eye on my holdings. He provides thoughtful input on my holdings and how I might make them more successful. I really appreciate this working relationship that Clayton and Grant have developed with me.
I have been working with Clayton and Oculus Private Wealth for a few years now. Clayton is an excellent communicator who takes initiative. He provides great service and is personable. I am very satisfied and would recommend Oculus and especially Clayton to anyone requiring financial planning.
Clayton has been handling my work RRSP for the past few years and unlike our previous financial agency, Clayton is present at our workplace and offers educational seminars about the benefits my company offers.
Last year, I moved my private assets over to Oculus as the service I was receiving from the bank was minimal. Clayton is always available to answer all of my questions and takes the time to explain everything in terms I understand.
Clayton works with me to ensure my financial goals are in line with my plan. I have learned more in the last few years with Oculus than I ever did at the Bank. Clayton has been a pleasure to deal with and I look forward to next year’s goals and education.
Clayton has been great to work with over the last few years. My husband and I aren't very savvy when it comes to the investment world, but Clayton has always taken the time to explain things to us and to answer all of our (many) questions. He is patient and friendly (even when it takes us forever to answer emails or follow through with something we are supposed to do on our end), and he listens to what we want. We appreciate his knowledge and advice, and we would recommend working with him to others!
Clayton is fantastic, dedicated, and prompt. His knowledge, customer service, and attention to detail is outstanding. My husband and I are happy to have Clayton as our advisor/broker.
